Of Lanterns and Mooncakes

Saturday, September 25, 2010

Tonight, we went to the Pesta Tanglung organized by the Opposition party, officiated by Hannah Yeoh. Not that I voted for them, come to think about it, I might do so in the future. Anyway, they give away lanterns, mooncakes, candles, drinking water and even fried mee hoon. How nice. Shern is going to be 5 yo soon, and this is the first time ever he gets to play lanterns and candles on mooncake festival, though not on the actual day itself. He and Marcus enjoyed themselves tremendously, they kept begging to stay longer at the playground.

We should really make the effort to celebrate Mooncake festival in the future, it's a dying tradition, sad to say. It's us, parents that do not take enough initiative to celebrate and introduce it to the younger generation, thus the kids grow up not knowing these traditions, let alone celebrate it.

For those of you who didn't know, it's an occasion to celebrate the mid-autumn festival. I love the mooncake festival when I was a kid. As for the Shern and his cousins, they love Chinese New Year, the only celebration for them on the Chinese calendar. They love to get up early in the morning, get dressed, playing with fireworks, eat good festive food, get red packet filled with money, sometimes wishing it's gold bullion instead. LOL.

Took some photos of the kids playing, bad picture quality with my iPhone.

Cool post you got here. I'd like to read something more concerning that matter. The only thing I would like to see here is some pics of any gadgets.
