9th day of Chinese New Year but it feels like CNY is so over already. I don't feel that atmosphere anymore, even in the malls, they hardly play the new year songs anymore. I don't know about the rest of you, but to me, it felt like every year is a step further away from those good old days new year celebration. People nowadays make lesser effort, unlike those days where people will religiously bake the kuih kapit (love letter biscuit) under the burning charcoal, decorating their homes with everything ang ang (red), hanging Chinese New cards all over the house, lining them up from wall to wall like fashion garlands! Oh, those were the days.
I remember those days when we were little, mom will bring us to the emporium to buy new clothes. At least 3 sets of new clothes for her 6 children, that makes 18 sets! Not forgetting new shoes! As long as her children are happy, mom didn't mind she was broke, and boy, we were! Can't wait for new year to put on the new clothes. Those new clothes were to last a whole year!
But kids nowadays get new clothes so often we can hardly see the excitement on their face anymore. i wonder if they get excited if people buy gold coins for them instead of giving them any pow (red packet money).

These days... got SALE, buy new clothes. When CNY comes, you don't feel the excitement to wear new clothes. Want cookie, just buy. Those days, we have to make ourselves.. and I think it's because things were harder to come by, we cherish and enjoy it more...
Yep. I do miss the CNYs of bygones
